Hey DSMTuners, I am new to the DSM scene. I stumbled across this 92 Eagle Talon TSI on my local craigslist page and it looks straight and he says it runs and drives well.

I was wondering what you guys think or any advice you may have for me for when I go to look at it. I can get engine bay pics later. Thanks

The money on used cars is in the chassis. Motors can be replaced or rebuild. Same goes for drivetrain. But, most people DO NOT do body work or paint their cars. From the looks of it, that car is not worth 3k. It might even be worth less than the "new" tires its on.

3k is for sure a starting figure, hit them up with the good old 1000 and work your way up to 1700 at the most Of course compression test, remote oil pressure test at the OFH, Boost leak test, as well as an under the body car in the air chassis inspection would be done on it prior to purchase. I do all of these things prior to purchase and bad mouth the car the whole time then bam 1000 buck offer

But I am in Canada and my money is worth much less than your therfore i suggest a 600 usd dollar offer, with 1000 usd offer on the high end

Maybe if you took 100k miles off of it. There seems to be a lot of "I'm not sure" in that post as well, which tends to make me question validity. I purchased my 98 gst in true "good" condition with only 68k original miles for that price.

Definitely try to get some more information out of him. The seller sounds pretty iffy, like he doesn't know much about the car. It looks like it hasn't really been maintained well but you'll have to see it in person and find out for yourself. Check for rust around the rocker panels and under the car in general. Try to get info on regular maintenance done. Any records or receipts.

From what the craigslist post says/shows I don't think it's worth 3k but it really comes down to how you feel about it overall when you see/drive it.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I got an engine bay picture. He says the previous owner had it to 14 pounds but he put it to 10 to be safe.

Down to 14 psi to be safe ???? w/ DSM link on a stock turbo... that really dont make sense to me at all. The misaligned body panels, bad paint and 174K miles makes it not worth but 1000 dollars ... then ask him when timing belts and components were done last, can you see the EPROM chip in the ECU for DSM link ..easy to tell its red and says ECM Link right on it. also ask if its a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt, LSD rear diff ?

I got my car 90k 92 Talon AWD 6 bolt w 4 bolt LSD rear diff, big 16g, 550cc RC injectors, SAFC and GM 3.5 MAF and MAf translator, front mount, extra 2g Rims, AEM wideband, Mishimoto rad , flex fans all for 1200 to my house delivered. SAme kinda condition as in paint as yours ....

I would start at 900-1000 and not go over 1500 delivered to your house, unless he says he never did timing belt and components last ..any reciepts for maintenence etc etc. Then if he didnt I would not go over 1200 delivered and get ready for some maintenence work.

I'd pass that up. In his pic he has another one so he's not new to the scene.. He knows exactly why he's selling that car. And is wayyyyy to iffy and sketchy on the details about the car."not sure on tune" but now he saying it was on 14 psi and he put it on 10 to be safe.. Sounds like a headache in the making to me...

Totally agree with this. Can it be restored? Yes, but the DSM Gods will make you suffer. He has another DSM and can't tell you if it had link or not. Thats a big red flag.
