Thoughts of buying a '95 gst?

I'm thinking of buying a '95 gst but it has a blown head gasket. Its got 80k miles on it and it looks good (no rust ect.) but i can't really test drive it for problems so what are your thoughts on this? Good idea or bad and what should I look for because I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

Its hard to say. Especially when you have to trust that the mileage is correct and that everything the seller is telling you is correct. If the price is right it can be fixed. Some things that shy me away from a buy would be RICE.

If it looks like its been driven hard by a teenager chances are it has and chances are there are more underlying problems than will meet the eye. If the car has a straight body with good paint and good rubber those are some important factors. Just about anybody can learn to rebuild/replace a motor but painting is something that takes practice. If it looks good doesnt look like somebody has hacked the wiring under the hood all to hell go for it.

The ad is here. (1995 eclipse gst) The guy who owns it now it like 35 or around there and the car is pretty ricey too.

I picked my 95 gst up on ebay with a blown timing belt for less than that and the body was in ALOT better shape.

I Say wait for a better deal on a better car, That one has probably been beat on pretty hard if it has a spoiler and body kit.

I'd wait for a better/cleaner body, it looks like those sideskirts are molded on as well

Its hard to say. If the car didnt have those nasty wheels and the body kit itd be golden. You have to think what your goals for the car would be. The Greddy FMIC is worth half of what hes asking. The 18g and other mods got you almost to $2000.00, but then you have to figure in cost of repairs. IMO body kits arent good for DD for obvious reasons. See if you can talking him down dont low ball but offer him 2k and see what he says. For 2k you could have yourself a decent car. Sell the aftermarket parts and get it looking better.

the only thing i was worried about was the engine, my uncle is works at a professional autobody shop and i can get the bodykit taken off easily. I'll offer 2k and find out where that goes.

Offer him 1.5k tops. I got my gst for 2k with a blown turbo, which i later replaced myself.

That isnt a good way to bargain chances are hes gonna sit tite on 2500. My approach on things such as this are make him an offer. When he refuses which at first he will walk away and act like its no big deal. Say heres my number if you change your mind. Wait and be patient he will call if it doesnt sale. NOBODY puts up stuff for sale and is truly "testing the waters" If he needs the money he will come off of it. IF he doesnt then it wasnt meant to be.

Keep in mind you dont want to low ball him that is disrespectful but at the same time most sellers will add $500-$1000 on top of what they NEED to pay bills or break even.

So far my theory has worked about %60 of the time. If it doesnt oh well there are better deals.
