My brother puts a little bit of black automotive paint in some good automotive clear and shoots it with automotive spray gun. Looks pretty BA.

You don't have to put a lot on. I used it for my reverse lights. Completely blacked out with no lights on...and when I reverse you can't even tell they were tinted. I also did my friend's Jeep tail lights with the same results. Pretty neat stuff. All you have to do is clean the surface....AND it dries with a gloss. Try it out.
 
Here's what Niteshades with proper prep work and clear shot from an HVLP gun looks like. Clear is still wet in this picture and the tails are a bit dark because that's what my buddy wanted. These are a set of Tail lights I did.

the ones I have done for people. ppg black base coat mixed with ppg dbc 500 (base coat with out pigment) ppg clear coat.

The only prep work needed here is a good cleaning. This is how it looks once its fully cured.
