Ok, the evo 8's engine code is what? 4G63 right? Right, so the tranny from the older iron block 4g63 engine should mate to it, hopefully. If it does then I can put the factory tuned 271 Hp engine in my '93 eclipse. If anyone has proof that this is impossible without spending more than 3 grand on installion, please tell me cause I leave for boot camp in 3weeks and come back at christmas with enough money to do this if I have calculated right. so please give me you feed back.

try the dealership, they can probably get one, it will be alot but thats a sure bet. Even though they are rather new, i'm sure someone has wrecked one from the rear already so try calling junkyards or looking through classifieds where they are parting it out.

Ebay has them just type in " Eclipse 4g63 " and it will pop up atleast 2 for about 1,400 and that is a full longblock.

One thing with the evo8 is they are very picky with the whole fuel ECU thing. They are alot more elaborate then the 2g and 1g setup. i would just find a nice 6bolt and do the 1g-2g combo. It is cheap, reliable, and proven MANY MANY times over. Save the money for that and a larger turbo than the 16g with supporting mods.

With my current setup on a STOCK 7BOLT, I walk the evo from a roll (10-20mph) the whole way and have yet to lose to one around here, much less an Sti around here. I am not trying to brag about my car I am just trying to show people that even a 7bolt stock block can run the road.

Have Fun and play Smart!!!

Midnght, you forgot to mention all the bolt ons you have that would make any motor pretty impressive (evo III manifold), 20G, etc. :D nice job taking care of the evo's, i like the DSM look better anyways.

Thanks:thumb:

I was just showing that even the stock 7bolt can be made fast enough that an elaborate Evo8 swap is pretty useless.

Hey, all I have over the evo is a 20g:shhh: that is my make up for haveing wrong wheel drive:laugh:. Seems pretty even don;t you think;) .

Keep on keepin on!!

It (6bolt) is strong and more reliable. It just so happens that the laws of bolt #'s are not a great way of seperating strength between these 2 particular engine. It has been my perception that the more bolts the stronger the product (engine, 4bolt rear) but not in this case.

One firm belief I have is that the 7bolt is a bred of its own when it comes to what it can and can't do. Many people have spun bearings at low pressure and mild driving, but in the other hand, many people are still running strong on the stock block while running the piss out of itOMG . I am not doing anything radical to my engine until or unless it walks or throws on me.

Drive it like you dream it!

The evo engine is NOT stronger and no EVO motor will drop into a 1g. Period. EVO 1-3 will drop into a 2g but their is absolutley no good reason to do it. the have a small 2g style intake mani, small head ports, smaller TB then a 1g, and a 16g, ####ing GREAT for the 4 grand the go for. the also invariably come with a useless tranny, so you just payed a thousand dollars for something not useable in any awd us car,

I agree with LightningGSX.

People will go through stupid JDM engine swaps, no matter how cosly and impractical they are, just to say "I have a JDM Engine, Im cool *grin*"

The whole point of modding is to end up with a better, faster, and stronger engine than what the company can give you. They weigh cost versus performace and guess what wins - COST, barnone - Japan or America. WHy in the world will you get a JDM engine if you can get an American 4G63 and get forged internals for it? We guys are lucky to have a turbo engine, it's easy to mod and you can choose whatever power level you want: small 16G to a 60 trim.

all you need to do is buy a 16g a nice ported manifold (evo pistons if you really want or just get 2g pistons w/ 1g rods) and you are at your 271 hp mark............ and buy an exhaust and some tuning stuff... big sidemount or a fmic if you have the $...

doing a swap to gain 71 hp is just plain silly........

You would better spend your money building a 4G63 stroker motor and a connection level IV head with a SP67BB turbo. You would be looking at about 600-800hp depending on your other variables. Not that I am doing this or anything....caugh, caugh, caugh! I also think that SRT-4 neons are buckets of bolts. I rolled the hell out of one on the interstate a few nights ago! Not impressive at all to me. Just my two cents!

There a good turn faster then any stock dsm ever made, and he would not be better off with your million dollar full race car that will probably dissapear before you ever do anything or come close to finishing it.
