I have been having some problems with my car. Under full throttle the car stutters when it's hit full boost. I assumed I had a boost leak but didn't have my tester so I replaced the plug and wires and the car ran perfect... I figured the problem was solved and went on my merry way. But now it seems to run fine for a week or two, then start studdering again. I replace the plugs, making sure they are gapped right, and the car is fine again. What could cause this?? I don't like buying plugs once a week!!

I had the same problem, seems just like you need to check your gapping once a week at least. This is obviously your problem. What are they gapped to?

These cars are kind of picky about wire, did you buy cheap ones?

Look for a while line on your spark plug wire boots on the inside where the spark plug goes. Thats called carbon tracking, usually happens with crappy wires.

If its not a wire problem or a gap problem it could be a coil thats getting weak but I doubt it, I have seen a few that did stuff like this but not usually. Keep in mind though I work on about 5 ignition systems a day.

plugs are gapped to .031. it may be my wires now that you say that i was planning on selling the car at one point and had melted one of my taylor wires so i threw a shitty set of autozone wires on it... hmmm i'll look into a new set of wires. Any suggestions

Oh yeah plugs are NGK BPRE6S

Those are fine plugs, although I would go bpr7es if your racing the car.

I bet its the wire.

i was told if you're running 20lbs of boost or higher you should use the colder plug. Thats why i had switched to the 6ES..

NGK is backwards. The higher the number the colder the plug. I would get at least a set of 7's for it and gap them down to at least .028. You plugs are going to be the problem. I have run Autozone wires before and have had zero problems at high boost levels. For your level I would definitely get a set of 7's and gap them down and that should take care of your problem easily.

What's your fuel pressure set at? If you're running too high, even a couple psi, you'll run richer and foul your plugs about once a week.

thanks for the info on the plugs.. i'll remember to run the 7's from now on. It's at 42-43. Is that too high?

i havent changed the fuel filter because i have an aftermarket setup and the kid i bought the car from is impossible to get ahold of. SO i have no idea what filter i need to get..

I'll try and do some hunting. Are MSD wires a good choice to go with? and where can i get a decent price on a set?

I got some from NAPA. I bought the auto zone ones trying to fix the bucking under WOT and that didn't fix it. I even bought a new coil pack OUCH it's expensive as hell from the dealer! :ohdamn: That didn't fix it either. I finally came back to the wires in my trouble shooting and got the best ones I could find at NAPA (MSD) AAhhhhhhhh finally the stuttering was fixed and has not returned :hellyeah: It's been about a year now.

Edit: Just noticed how old this thread was! :coy: Idiot, You can't take me anywhere!!!!!
