So I'm wondering if you guys can help chase down an annoying noise.
I have a 97 gsx manual with a 6 bolt swap and a rebuilt transmission. Over the course of driving this car, there's always been various wind/air leak noises. For example, close a vent when the heaters on and it starts whistling.
Well, there's always been a constant "wind" noise that I've pretty much given up on finding, until this week. While driving down the freeway, this noise was really getting to me since it was raining and I had the windows up (I usually just have them down since the AC is iffy), and I happen to push against the stick - and the noise went away! But then I let go of the stick and it came back.
This happens in any gear at most any speed( not at a stop). Push against the stick in third, it goes away. Pull against the stick in forth, it goes away. I can even get up to freeway speed, put it in neutral, and lightly push the stick towards a gear, and, if it doesn't go away completely, it'll at least dampen the noise.
I pulled the center consol to make sure the base plate was all secured since I thought the "air" noise could be coming from there, but it's all secure.
So, sorry for the wall of text, but can anyone put a finger on what could be causing the noise?
Thanks all!
