Been a member for a while now but have a newb question for the masses. I have seen people with steel recirc bov tubes and I am wondering if there are any benefits to having one of them instead of the stock recirc tube. If there is...where might I pick one up short of fabbing one up myself?

Thats for the added sound effect. That's the only purpose, there's no really performance gain by using the stock or a steel one.

Go to your local hardware store or home depot and you can find yourself hard pipes there to fab up your own recirc tube.

I know they use to come in the Greddy 18G turbo kit, they're attached to the Greddy intake pipe and are never "Sold Separately"

Unless you do like Dsmj89 said and fabricate your own.

Go to Loews, and check out the plumbing drain pipe section. I had this on my old setup, then realized the downside to it. Now, instead of having two clamps holding the recirc tube on, you have to have 4. (more chance for leaks)

I was not aware of that! Thanks for the info. Might you recommend just getting some radiator hose and replacing the stock on? I know the stock recirc tube has got a funny shape to it as opposed to just having a straight thru design and thought maybe people are switching over to the radiator hose for better throughput or as a good way to route the recirc for short route piping on FMICs.

I did exactly that. With my FMIC, the stock recirc tube didn't work anymore. I went to advanced auto, and got a piece of pre-curved rad hose, since a straight piece would not make the bend from the BOV to the intake without pancaking. If possible, just tell the manager you want to see which one fits the best, and just take a couple with you to the parking lot to try them on, since there were at least 20 different curved rad hoses when I got mine. After that, the one I got, I attached the one end to the BOV and kept trimming off the other end until I had basically a straight shot for the air to be released into the intake.

I also did just that. I found one that had a 1.125" inner diameter and had both a 90* and 45* bend in it. I didn't know which would fit better since I had a bend of about 60* (the 90* worked better).

They just let me walk behind the counter and look through the pipes with a tape measure.

I think the pipe I got cost $8.95 or something like that.

4 clamps? Are they C or T clamps? I would try and get a good set of T clamps, they always work the best.

Yes, you will need 4. With the hose you just need to clamp down the hose on either end, so you only need 2 clamps. With the recirc tube, you need to have a piece of hose on the BOV and the intake clamped down, plus you need to connect the other ends of the hose to both sides of the recirc tube and clamp them down, for an additional 2 clamps. I personally did not see the justification of keeping it, since the clamps were practically on top of each other on either end, since it was a very short distance between the BOV and the intake pipe.
