im looking to make some more room in my trunk for a custom system. after ripping all the pannels out .. relized the trunk isnt that small.. lots of room under where the convertible top sits..

but my question is when i ripped thew pannels out theres a X crossbar right in the middle of the trunk.. just wondering if anyone here has cut that bar off b4.. is it possible?
i know the bar is there for a reason.. but could i chopp it off & reinforce it some other way???

the x-bar is somewhat a chasis reinforcement to reduce flex coz of the fact that we don't have a solid roof. if you're not going auto x-ing then i doubt it'll hurt your car at all. also, the other purpose of the xbar is so you won't put anything big that would pass that, that's where the retracted roof goes into. put your roof down and look at it from inside the back... good luck with it

I put my amps under there, and later hope to put my hydrolic equipment there.

I experimented with a bass tube under there too, but it didn't sounds very loud.

I removed my spare tire and took off the mounting point with an angle grinder (ask me if you need help)

I am now about to cover it all in black leather and white carpet.
More pics when I do!

I then made a fibreglass subbox on the left.

I also put in a neon blue light to show them off!

Let me know if you have any other ideas!

I had a 12" full size subwoofer box fitted under the soft top area, right between the bars and the rear seat. It was a JL W series, with a mono 350 RMS amp. DO NOT go for this setup. Bass is minimal and the system does not sound good. I replaced this with a 10" in a truck bod in my trunk, and it sounded ten times better and louder. I don't know what the mechanics of the scenerio was, but the sub sounded horrible in that space. Trust me, it's not worth it in my opinion.

I recently had a custom conical box built in the trunk, I'll post pictures soon. Fits 2 12" subs, no amp rack though. Hits HARD.

(Do NOT cut the X-bars though!)

wow
other than the x tubing that IS a 2gb AWD floor. Here is a crazy Idea. build a floating amprack off the x tubing. Sink your sub or subs in the floor. carry the spare in the trunk on top of the floor when you need to.
I had removed the jack holder with a grinder for my old kicker amp (045d) to fit under the floor next to the spare tire, my new JBL 755.6 Got is much too big to fit any where in that well If I had those x braces instead of a pass thru I'd put it there out of the way.

i have a better idea

you know that useless back seat..........

but anywho. you *could* cut out the rear Xmember, and get some strut tower braces up in there. i havent tried it, but i hear it can be done if you like finnagleing stuff in small spaces. i think a strut tower brace would be out of the way and still give almost the same amount of of strength.
