My dash Speedometer don't work.

OK, i drove all over town today loking for a replacment speedo cable for my 91 AWD. No one has it, or has a name for.

Im wondering why? Is the cable I am looking at not a speedo cable? I am sure it is, i unscreewd a cap off my transaxil. The pipce in there was severed with little metal springy wires all over.

Anyone help me find out what it is called, or where to find it??

Thanks

Chris

well im not positive how the speedo cable is set up on an awd 1g, but, in general the speedo cable has a small end on it that looks like a allen wrench that plugs into a little gear that is inside the tcase. The so called thingy wires that your trying to discribe could be the cable it self, after the "allen wrench" shaft got torn off. Also the speedo could be electronically controlled, as in the cable still screws in but it reads off a tiny roation sensor that is in the cable assembly and wires everything to the speedo ...(this is how it is on some jeeps, this is only a guess to help you since you have to relies yet..)) I think its junkyard time...

Yes, i am talking about the cable. I can't find a place to got one to replace the bad one i have.

I already looked at the back of my instrument cluster. The mph will incress if i turn it with an SST, with speedo cable detached.

I go unplug the cable from the transaxil and a little rod falls off that has bent spring like fine wires all over.

I need that cable and don't know where to find it.

The cheapest option is probably the wrecking yard, otherwise you're probably stuck hitting the dealer up for a replacement.

Now is the 90 and 91 systems for speedo cable going to be the same? Will one be to short if i did get a 90 for a replacement?

They should all be the same. As long as its a 5speed you are good to go. 1.8's and 2.0's both work just fine.
