ok i've been looking at some mufflers and i always see these car-specific mufflers like for example a muffler only for a turbo charged car, or a muffler only for a civic or something along those lines. What i've been wondering is is what's the difference? i mean a muffler really only has 2 purposes, noise and blowing out exhaust. so like wouldnt any muffler fit any car? or wat am i missing?

Well on turbo cars you figure that more air is being sucked in and more air needs to be sucked out, on civic type catbacks they do have less restrictions and so forth but they dont have such a power gain for civics as they do for turbo dsm's i mean obvious with prices as well a hks catback is like 850.00, and for honda a good mugen catback is like 450.00 because the horsepower gains are a dramatic difference.so to answer your questions they are somewhat the same but not because at the same time you need to compare the vehicles.

yea but i was talking about the actual muffler, not the whole cat-back.
