SOme help please advanced tuners

Im looking at getting a 98 eclipse gs off my friend with 103,000 miles on it.
I want to tune it to a point basically to the sti-evo speed area..To faster.
Is it a bad idea to tune a car with this many miles..if not..What would be the smartest
way to tune for that level.Thanks all..any guids welcome

Its not a bad idea to tune a car w/ over 100k. Just do regular maintenance firtst, before mods. But your not going to get a non turbo GS to be as fast or faster then a evo or sti.

That's high milage for a 1998. How much was he going to sell it for? Hopefully not any more then $5,000.

It's a nonturbo, Base model eclipse. I could see if it were a turbo model, But unfortunatly it's not. You would be better off starting with a better foundation.

If the routine maintenance was done on the car, Then it would not be bad. If it was not completed, Then I suggest doing so, Before you start to mod the car. You will not be able to get a basemodel eclipse to perform like an evo or an sti, Even with all the bolt-on's for the car. You are basically trying to compare apples, And oranges.

But i am going to turbo the car.i just wanted to know what is smarter to do first,sorry for scrambleing the words..
it is a 98,good care,new tires,new brakes,no problems and 4k. (friend purchase)

Hit up the NT to turbo conversion page, they can help you out alot better!

Don't mean to crap on your dream's no pun intended on your name but it won't happen with that gs engine in there.

A. Evo's and sti's are both AWD

B. They are both turbo.

C. They are creating high amounts of power stock.

You would be much better off getting a 1g turbo. Even a 1g turbo with 120k miles on it will be alot faster then the GS. If you have the money get a 2g turbo and if you want to create the power your talking then do a 6-bolt swap. Like I said though if your short on cash go with the 1g.

Here is my suggestion. Sell the car for $4000, buy an AWD turbo dsm (you will save money by going with a 1g, I would go with a 2g). You should be able to by a 95 talon tsi for around 4k. I picked one up for $3500 (98k miles) and the only thing wrong was spark plugs and a dented hood. It even came with a 16g turbo and a 190 walbro fuel pump. With about $1000, you can take a complete stock 2g turbo awd and have it be compareable to a WRX.

$5000 total for a AWD turbo DSM or spend a few thousand to turbo a FWD N/T DSM.

def look for the talons tsi/awd 1g or 2g they are much cheaper than a eclipse and are mechanically identical. also 420a n/t short blocks tend to gernade with a turbo bolt ons

Man, turning a GS as fast as a STI is a dream probably not possible. Unless your damn rich.....I raced a GS in my TSi......I ran away from him like he was running backwords and i was running forward.....a GS is like haven a Honda Accord....not an STi
