Smoke out the exhaust pipe... Diagnosis?

OK, here's the deal. Lately the weather has been cold, around 40 degrees. I know white smoke out the muffler is a head gasket, but I will have white smoke coming out of it every once in a while. I am using a tiny bit of coolant.
My question is, when the head gasket needs changing, will smoke constantly come out, or intermittenly. Or could this be a sign of the headgasket on its way out. Thanks for any help.

When do you notice it? When boosting or just in general? Take a long drive (30 miles or so) then shut your car off. Pop the hood and check your overflow bottle and see if it bubbling and pretty full. If it is your head gasket is gone and needs to be replaced. If its not there is a good chance that its on its way out.

Well, I don;t think it's my headgasket, I'm convinced it's condensation because the smoke doesn't smell. But with your's still blowing white smoke even after the HG was changed, maybe they didn't do it right. My friends had a car with a blown HG, each time it was changed, it blew again. He finally just got rid of it.

How is your coolant temp gauge? It should be pinned at halfway, and not vary at all once the car is warmed up.

Do a compression test, or have one done. That should tell you if your head gasket has any holes or imperfections, and in which cylinder.

Finally, are you positive it is not just warm exhaust being expelled into very cold weather?
