should i pick up this motor?

alright i was looking around and i found this..
Motor - 2.0 16 Valve Dual Overhead Cam - broken timing belt and bent valves - $75

i was woundering cause
1. i wanna tear it down and see how everything works and how to do timing belt and everything
2. possibly rebuild it and make a higher hp motor for my car someday.

im also only gunna pick it up if its a turboed motor. what u guys think?
 
If it is turbo and is complete then why not.

If you are going to completely rebuild it then the valves wont be an issue.
 
There are a few threads on turboin a n/t engine you could read. But it may still be worth it just to use as a learning aid.
 
true. Thanks ill look into it. yes i really need to learn these motors more. even if its n/a the only thing i would be missing was the turbo i think and ive rebuilt mind so im pretty good with that
 
Its alotta work I can tell you that for sure.

Think, the most most costly thing for making a N/T car into a turbo car is the ECU.


But, It'll be a sleeper in a way, worth it if you want to learn how things work too, just costly.
 
Have you gone junkyard searching yet. You could probably find one cheap at a pull-a-part. Search different options for engines. You may find something other that a 4g63 that you would like to build for your car. Like a g4cs.
 
If you are going to build it I would defidently get it.. The block itself is the same minus oil squirters.. Pistons are different but rods are the same.. But if your going to build it it should have new internals..
 
Because good after market pistons can handle the extreme heat because they were designed for alot more power than the stock 195hp. Stock turbo pistons relied on oil squirters to cool them, hign end pistons can take it. Also to make the motor turboed you dont need as much as to make the car work with it. You will need a turbo oil pan, or tap in the NA oil pan for the turbo oil feed/return lines. You will need a turbo intake cam as they have more lift than the NA. you will need a knock sensor, the NA block already has a hole tapped for it. You need bigger turbo injectors. Other than these, I dont think anything else was different between NA and turbo motors. But the list goes on and on about the other parts to make it work with your car. But Im sure you already know all that
 
The ECU is different also, maybe you can chip it or something.

His car is already turbo so he wont need to change the ECU he just needs to prepare the block / pistons for a turbo car then switch the knock sensor & stuff over from his old engine.

Oh I must have gotten the wrong impression or something, I didn't realize he had a TSI and was looking at a N/T engine, I thought he had a N/A car looking to make it Turbo, my bad.
