I have a chance to purchase a used head for 450 dollars. Its a 1g head with 2k miles on the last rebuild. It has hks springs, ferra retainers, ferra valves, and hks 272 cams. The only thing that worries me is the guy said he made 685hp with the head on e85 and a mild tune. So i dont know if i should take the risk of purchasing a head that has been pushed that hard already. Granted the cams alone are worth more than what i would be paying for the head. Any oppinions on this?

here are some pics..

You always take a chance on buying a part like that. Two things to consider are: 1. If he is being honest then you know that it will support that much powerif you decide to push it that hard, and 2. You could always part it out and make some extra cash if it doesn't suit your needs.

If the head has all those things the guy said it has, I say buy it but you'll have to take his word for it (taking a chance).

You can always take it to a machine shop and have it checked as part of the buy agreement.
