Recently bought a 92 TSi with a short shifter in it. I think it's the pacesetter version but in my search I read that OBX also has/had a 1g short shifter, either way it's one of the two. At the bottom of the shifter where the stop is, there is just an inch long rod. Now when the gears are fully engaged the rod is still about half an inch from the spot where it should rest and stop the linkage from moving any furthur. Anyone else ever come across this problem with thier 1g short shifter? I really don't want to hurt the linkage or over-extend the shift forks due to the shifter not resting where it should. Can this really mess things up? Will the rubber stopper on a stock 1g shifter fit over this rod and be in the right spot or do I need to modify it somehow?

If anyone needs a visual idea of what I'm talking about, let me know and I can try to get some pictures to show what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Is there any provision to adjust the stops? There was a nice VFAQ on the DIY short shift mod.. and they used a bolt which allowed adjustments.

I would definitely put something in there to take up some of the gap as one hard shift could cost you big$$ in repairs.

I actually compared this one to the one in my n/t and they are the same exact shifters only this one was cut down and rewelded, which leads me to believe it is the pacestter version. Anyway, my n/t had the same rubber stopper on there still so I just put it onto the tsi, since I don't drive the nt anymore. It looks like it's stopping in the right spot now.
