Purchased my car in Sept 04, and had the alternator replaced in october of 04 because everytime i would step on the brake or turn my turn signal my stereo and anything electrical in my car would short out for a quick second.

NOW, MONTHS after i had my alternator replaced similar shorts are occuring, but only when i apply the breaks or turn my signal. As well as my HEADLIGHTS will be dim and when i accelorate the car my headlights will get brighter? I hope its not my alternator AGAIN  I'm just open for ideas.

You know I have the same issue but only when running my stereo at 40+ volumes, or at night when the headlights are on. Like to know how to fix it as well, know a little about stereos but the system came in my car. Can't listen loud at night, looks ### pulsating down the road, and afraid cops will pull me over because of my lights. (2 Kicker Comp VR12's, Fosgate Amps of 500.2 and 200.4, also have gauges, and illuminated dash) Too much?

Lol seems like a common problem, I get the same symptons. Now even if I try to start the car with ANYTHING such as radio or headlights or even turn signal, the car wont have enough juice, and even with nothing on it will take a few seconds to get enough juice to sart the car. Its gotten so bad im thinking of getting my timing belt along with all that stuff done this week. I am afraid today or tomorrow my car just wont start period.

My buddy who used to own an Eclipse RS had a similar problem. When you turned the blinkers on the entire dash would blink. He sold the car beofre the problem was addressed though.

You likely have a ground issue wich is common on both 1g and 2g cars. I would suggest checking the ground wires from block to body/battery, its likely that one or both are rather messed up by the connectors from flexing.

A secondary issue is that the alts used in the DSM cars are not really high enough amp to deal with running big amps, HID kits and other high current draw apps.

My car had the flashing dash board light issue with turn signals when I first got it. I redid the grounds throughout the car with some 02 gauge wire.

The factory alt in the US cars is 70ish amp, the alt in the Canadian versions is 100ish amp. These can be ordered from mitus and even autozone in the form of a Bosch built alt.

Thirdly the battery mitsu used and what most of the aftermarket books suggest is a piddly 650 ca battery which is enough to start the car but its not really enough to buffer the current draw on accessories. I solved this problem by going to an Optima red top 720 cca battery. A 720 amp spiral cell battery is about the same as a 900 amp lead acid battery in use as the spiral cell batterys have a much higher capacitance and are able to dump high current much longer then the lead acids.

I have no aftermarket stereo equip, or after market anything, its all just stock. I"ll check my ground connection, and it just kills me the alternator they put in was NEW and not refurbd, Cause i bought the alternator as brand new and non of that refurbd crap cause i used to sell it. I hope it isn't the alternator. But i'll do more checking, anymore input i'll listen, thankyou.

Well i found out my alternator had gone out again. It is sending NOTHING out for a voltage read. Basically sense Mitsubishi replaced it within 12 months they are going to replace it for free cause they have a 12month/12000 mile warranty on all their work. Anyone having simliar issues check the alternator. Thanks for all the replys guys.

Nanan Is right it definitely is a grounding issue. you have a weak or loose ground @ your battery.

fyi, the gvr-4 alternator is 90amps & fits a 1g dsm perfectly.
