Asking this for a friend. What rpms should a N/A 2g talon shift at? He has a header, catback, and cold air intake. I was thinking right around 6k maybe 6500.

what do you guys think?

Natually aspirated motors rely heavily on torque since they don't have a power adder. I remember reading reference articles (maybe on 2GNT) that clearly state that for a naturally aspirated Eclipse, you shift at redline to pick up the torque peak in the next gear. Turbo cars generally look for the area where horsepower falls off and shift shortly before then since the boost will very quickly bring the power back online.

Either way a dyno can be used, but what makes each perform at it's best in terms of shifting strategy is vastly different. I hope i don't need to issue the caveat that one should have a well maintained motor in order to run the car that hard. I religiously shifted my GS at 7000 and felt a perceptible difference from my previous 6000 RPM shift points.

Let me know if that makes sense,

Andy

Yea, to have the most torque he can get we will want to shift at redline... But as andymoraitis said, make sure his engine is well maintained...

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I will give him the much appreciated knowledge!! I forgot how knowledgable you guys were on here.
