Shifter Spring

I installed a fidanza short shifter on friday and im just wondering what this peice is called.

Mine somehow got stretched apart and I cant get it back to normal tightness so my shifter is all wobbly in neutral so I need to know what to search/ask for when buying or getting another one.

FYI this picture shows a 1G spring but its the same idea.

I dont think thats really the case. the 2 arms that are supposed to be really close together to hold the shifter in the middle are farther apart then they should be (looked at my friends as reference)

we tried everything to get it back to normal but nothing was working, the spring still seems how it should be, just the arms are far apart for some reason. I tried bending them over but once the springs cross over onto the other side of eachother, it is almost impossible to move them any farther.

the only solution I can think of that we didnt try is sticking it in a vice and then bending the arms, because we couldnt do that while holding it.

It IS almost impossible to turn it around another time by hand. This suggests using needle-nose pliers to get the spring arms back around to where they're supposed to be. Maybe it isn't the case though. I could be wrong.

hmm that may be the problem (sounds like it) but we were using pliars and all sorts of things last time, but I guess it will be worth a try again.

Any other suggestions?

Bring the car over in the next couple of days and will take care of it.
