In pretty much any gear (but especially in 1st) when I hit the gas I feel the shifter move a little bit, and sometimes hear a light clunk. It's not real bad but I just notice it. I'm guessing it's my motor mounts but I was going to see what you guys thought.

Given it's the motor mounts, is it dangerous? I'm not sure how the motor mounts are constructed on these cars... but can the engine/trans break loose and cause problems if I clutch too hard or something, or is it just a matter of annoyance?

BTW my car is basically stock, 420a, so I couldn't put a whole lot of torque on the mounts if I tried, probably.

I'm not a 2g guy nor do I really have any 420a experience other than driving them a couple times, but I will say that cars using shifting linkage (cables between shifter and trans) will have some movement normally, anything excessive should be considered a warning.

If you hear clunking and other noises during shifting it could be clutch fork or the cables themselves hitting things (hoses, getting caught in wiring), bad bearing or it could be something unrelated hard to tell.

I will say that if you've got something mis-aligned and your shifter is dis/engaging the clutch out of it's range of normal operation it could be bad news unless you get it looked at.

I've driving cars with blown out motor mounts and I've seen some movement from it possibly, but never any clunking noises so I wouldn't think this would be your issue but if your mounts are missing all the rubber bushings then ya it could be your problem.

Just things to consider, not claiming to be an expert here.

If that is the problem, that looks much easier to fix than motor mounts.

I'd imaging the FWD and AWD cars have different transmissions, but I can take a peek later when I get home and see if it at least looks similar.

I had an aircooled VW with a bad transmission mount and it had this problem, so that's why I assumed it was a motor mount... but yeah the cable system probably makes a difference in diagnosis.

hey guys i have a 95 eclipse rs 420a engine so i put a used tranny on and a new clutch (clutch isn't bolted to fly wheel) because i saw a video on youtube that you can possible turn the flywheel and clutch to line up the 4 screws to bolt them into place because if i didn't do that and bolted the clutch to the flywheel before the tranny its hard to line up the splines on the transmission into the clutch and don't have a engine hoist so i got the tranny and clutch on (not bolted into the fly wheel but) the 420a clutch fork some how moved when i put the tranny on is there a way besides taking the tranny off the engine to get the bearing inside the trany back on the fork it self i would really like to get that back on and bolts lined up I've had this car 2 years 2 engines went dead 3rd runs if i had the patients like I've had an my dad allowed me to id get the engine out and fix it but he doesn't want me to
if there isn't a way to do that then i might as well sell the car it self
