Kitchener,
Ok my car currently blew the clutch... knowning what I know I thought that the release bearing blew out. So talking to the local performance shop, I told him everythin that was wrong with the car. he said it sounds only like a clutch problem... I told him that it won't shift into gear, and that the clutch is engaged in nuetral. Anyway, he charged me 5 hours labour to pull the tranny out and put the new clutch in, he puts it all back together and it does the same thing. He calls me and tells me I need a new tranny. This kind of pisses me off him being very experienced in the field of cars would think he'd know that the car had tranny problems Anyway now he wants to charge me another 5 hours of labour +1 hour for getting stuck bolts out. Kind of pisses me off for one, I've never seen a shop complain so much about stuck bolts as he has. Every car he works on seems to have 100 stuck bolts, but if I take my car to another shop they replaced the wheel bearing and other part and never had a single problem with the bolts. So now I think he's just full of shit. Anyway the point is should I have to pay for another 5 hours of labour because he screwed up and didn't check the tranny while it was out... like I told him to do? Because I need my car for work Monday and I don't really have that much more money to dish out on this. Anyway let me know if you have any ideas of what I can do. Thanks.

I just want to get this straight. So he took out the tranny to fix the clutch problem and found out that the tranny shit and its not the clutch. He then decides to put the tranny back in the car without calling you to let you know what tha diagnoses was. Now he wants to charge you to take it out, agian, and replace it. To top it all off he charges you for "stuck bolts".

I would tell him to shove it up his ass.

If he took it out and put it back in before calling you that is his fault and you shouldnt pay him for that. He needs to let you know before hand, and you need to ask this kind of stuff up front, if there are any extra charges for disposal, lost parts, or "stuck bolts". He needs to know that stuck bolts are part of the business and he shouldnt charge you for them. This guy is a slease ball. Take your car somewere else.

He should have known that it was most likely NOT the clutch that is fcuked up.

If this guy was HALF a mechanic he thinks he is, he should have known that it would of done that. I think he went after you in hopes of getting double the money for the same Job. He more than likely did it with the hopes of you saying.."Well it's already there, go ahead and pull it and fix it."

or he is a fool. :thumbdown

I would talk to him about doing the work for free, since he neglected to check for what you had asked him to. If he says, no report it to the Better Business Bureau and handle it legally. i think that there is no way that you should have to put up with that crap.

contact the better business beaurau (sp) and write an educated complaint without swearing, provide photocopies of the reciepts, they cannot do work aside from what is authorized. and if a shop gave you a diagnosis and it was not directly related to, or fixed the problem, then it is considered fraud in many states. you will either sue him, or get his shop a bad rep with the gov. that will probably guarantee him for an gov. audit this year, and usually a nice fine. . . get him where it hurts, the pocketbook. I hope he has pictures and documentation of every client on file for your state auditor. . . can you tell what i do for a living? :D

dont threaten him, tell him what the situation is, outline what the result of his poor work is, and tell him how he will be penalized for his actions. right now he sees one guy relying on his good graces. not a position of strength for proper negotiation.
