Running very Rich

I just bought a 91 tsi awd and it is running very rich. There is a loud ticking noise coming from injectors. I changed spark plugs and # 4 was black and the rest ok. It revs slow and blows greyish black smoke out muffler. I removed lower mesh screen and silencer and backed mass air screw out a tad. Other than that it is all stock. I have not checked timing yet. When I first start it up it idles at about 2k and then drops to about 1k. The compression checked fine. Any suggestions?

Bump : anyone one got an answer to this ? same thing is happening on my 91 Tsi Awd

You could have an injector stuck open. That'd make it run really rich on that one cylinder.

Other than that, just do the usual maintenance poopy:
Intake leak test
new plugs/wires (good on the plugs already)
etc etc

I pulled the turbo and the wastgate door was not sealing because there is a gap. There is also like 4 huge cracks in the turbine housing so, I got a new turbine housing and I am hoping this will help fix the problem. I also got new wires and plugs and hacked the air box. I hope this helps sombody else.
