Ok so here's the deal. Thursday I was driving my car to work and was literally a mile and a half from my house. I was cut of by some guy and I passed him on the left. Accelerated about half throttle in 3rd coming from fourth. Let off and put into fourth then into fifth. I noticed the car started vibrating a little bit. I put the clutch in and put the car in neutral. It was vibrating horribly. I pulled into the next entrance which happened to be a gas station. I popped the hood and took a look at the motor. It was shaking heavily and sounded really weird. Not metal to metal or anything but just a sort or heavy bogging sound. When I reved it with my hand the air filter was next to my ear and even with very little throttle, I heard compressor surge. I did a little diag by pulliung the MAF plug off and again moved the throttle body, same exact condition.
I limped it home because it was close by. When I got home and pulled into my parking spot, the car died. I got out and looked at the motor again and realized I saw smoke. I found that the smoke was generating from the area between the turbo and the block. I noticed an obvious burning oil smell but also smelled that o so sweet coolant smell but did not SEE any coolant. I looked under the car and there were a few drops of oil. Nothing puddled or anything but a few drops. I had to get to work so I jumped in my bimmer and went to work. The whole day I was thinking about it and couldn't think of anything other that a blown turbo or a bad MAF or a combo of both. When I got home from work, I started it again to check things out again. When I started it, it started funny and when I popped the hood I noticed two one inch cracks on the top of my turbo manifold. Not too surprising because it's a 1g and it's prone to cracking. Only thing that concerned me was the fact that there was oil vapor coming out of the cracks. Not squirting, just sort of pushing out and a tiny puddle formed on the manifold.
So after reading what happened, can anybody give any advice on what it might be?
Service Update:
Plugs and Wires have about 500 miles on them
Valve Cover gasket is brand new
New FFWD Exhaust gaskets
Any help would be greatly appreciated
