Just for fun/ FAQ/ knowledge I thought there should be a thread with all possible rim and tire sizes with little or no fabrication....
if you want to add try and put it in the form i have it
What gen./model: Wheel size: Tire size: & Offset:
Lets start off with the basics:

Stock FWD 2g : Wheel size: 14x5.5 Tire size: 195/70-14 Offset: 46mm
Stock AWD 95-96 : Wheel size: 16x6 Tire size: 215/55-16 Offset 46mm
Stock AWD 97-99: Wheel size: 17x6.5 Tire size: 215/50-17 Offset 46mm

thats all I know but feel free to add on to this list on what you know works/have

also include information on if you needed to remove and or replace something to make it work

thanks alot

p.s. will 18's workon a 2g? I haven't seen anything on it... :dsm: :talon:
also if this has been done elsewhere or i missed something i shouldnt have, sorry

Or...

205/55/16

Width (millimetres) - 205
x
Aspect Ratio (sidewall) - 0.55
x
2 (as in 2 sidewalls)
=
225.5
/
25.4 (to get inches)
+
16 (size of rim)
=
24.87" diameter

205 x 0.55 x 2 = 225.5 divided by 25.4 = 8.87 + 16 = 24.87"

ta da

Wish I could make this easier.

Try it on all sizes of tires and rims.

225/45/17

225 x 0.45 x 2 = 202.5 divided by 25.4 = 7.97 + 17 = 24.97"

225/40/18

225 x 0.40 x 2 = 180 divided by 25.4 = 7.08 + 18 = 25.08"

As you can see these are 3 different size rims and tires, yet the diameter is all very close to 25 inches. I've posted this so many times before. I hope this helps all the people asking what will fit their car lately. I showed this to a pirelli tire salesman, selling tires at a local tire shop. He told me he'd been working for pirelli for 20 years and did not know this formula. Prob cause he doesn't need to, since his book tells him the diameter of every size. But ya, have fun guys.

Here is a calculator for punching in stock sizes and how different sizes will differ from the original with your speedo.

97-99 GST's were 16x6 with 46mm offset

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

hope this helps

vfaq also has a reference with what will or won't fit - I mean no insult (in case you've already read it)

How do you know what size offset will work on a car?

For example, I'm looking at some rims and they are 17 7 5-114.3 40

Will these work and look right on a dsm?

They either:

A. Do a lot of research.
B. Read the articles posted by others that did a lot of research.
C. Stay close to stock dimensions.
D. Use what others have used with success.
E. Just ask.

Those wheels will fit just fine, but I'm thinking you are probably going to want some rubber on them.

You mean I gotta buy tires too? WTF...

I figured if I drove carefully for a while, I could get away without having rubber on them hehe

:)

Yes you can fit 235/40/17

I have 255/40/17 in the back :sneaky:
and 245/40/17 in the front....:D
