Ok so I have been having some problems with my car for almost a month now that have rendered the car undriveable. This all started about a week after I did a around break job on my car. It started out with the driveshaft(propellershaft) thumping like mad and the rear inner wheel would drag when I turned. I replaced the carrier bearings, U-joints, and rebuilt the lobro joint. The thumping went away but a new symptom came up, a loud clunking sound came from the rear when turning. I then had TRE rebuild my tranny, to both of our supprize the center diff was not broken. Ming and Jon suggested checking the transfercase and rear diff, so I got a brand new transfercase. Now a new strange symptom poped up, the rear of my car swings side to side when driven and my pass side lugnuts were loose, real loose. I torqued the lugs back down but they just came loose again on the next try and the swaying issue remained.

Today I ripped out the rear diff of my car(my god its a pita). Again not a damn thing looks bad, the diff although a bit dirty inside is mechanically in exelent shape, all bearing surfaces look good and all the gear teath look flawless. The viscious coupler is nice and stiff like it should be and the gear lash was well within spec. The axles are fine, the wheel bearings are fine, the rear suspension is nice and tight.

HELP I just cant figure it out!

I am starting to think that the wheels are not locking up as I did some tests and found that only the right wheel is not staying in sync with the rest. This makes me wonder how one wheel could fall out of sync when the tranny, transfercase, and rear diff are good? Ah you must be thinking what I am, it must be the axle, but how could this be the axle is in one piece and the right rear wheel will turn the drivetrain when the car is lifted. At low speeds when I turn right there is a binding feeling in the car, the rpms drop a bit and then there is a loud pop sound then a few clunks and then everything is as normal.

I need to do a few more tests but I think the culpret is that the splines have stripped off the axle shaft where they go into the CV joint, or the CV shaft inner part is broken but still in one piece and is letting the spine shaft turn inside of it.

In other news, I have discovered that the right rear shock is blown, meh this car is getting damn expensive to drive.

So I got fed up with this crud and dropped the whole rear suspension looking for something broken when to my supprize the pass side shock came out in two pieces. The center shaft on the strut broke off at the bottom end so it just pulled out of the shock body. What makes me wonder is why the car didnt make any anormal noise when I went over bumps. Argh /sigh. New struts and springs are on order.

Ya know, I love my car but the damn thing is a serious pita some days or months.

I seriously hope this resolves the clunk noise but one can never be sure when dealing with a DSM.
