Rear seat belts locked

I am in the process of dismantling my car for various reasons. I took off the rear two seat belts completely. Now they won't roll. They lock like they would if I slammed on the brakes but they arent even in the car. Any ideas? I didn't throw them or abuse them or anything, just been sitting there.

Is this happening to you even after you re-installed them? My canadian seat belts did the same thing. After I put them in, they worked just like normal.

No, they are still off the car. I am trying to clean the belts because they are kind of gross but I guess I'm just out of luck unless someone can think of something.

See above to what I said. I'm tryin to clean them. Its 100x easier to clean when its not mounted.

They are sensitive to the angle they are positioned in.

Yep, they are designed so if the car is on its side, they won't let the seat belt release. I had mine out, and couldn't pull it out. Position them as if they were installed and they will come right out.

I thought it was something like that. I thought I had tried that but I'll give it another shot.

On the side were you can see the white plastic, that's the side with the lock in it. There is a small round ball that needs to sit perfectly center. There is a white plastic arm that sits inside that ball that prevents the belt from turning. You might be able to tap that side to reset the ball. You sould be able to see them through the plastic.
