alright happened to times now. ill be driving normal all of a sudden the check engine light will come on and the car is putter like i took two plug wires off i would let it drop in idle then hit the car and boom its ffine.. any ideas? i chnaged the plugs and wires... help pleasee

I am having this same kind of problem with my 1g n/t. The only different with mine is that i have not seen the CEL come on. I have been told so far that it could be an ECU problem or a cracked head. I havent had the time to look at mine yet. Good luck on your fix.

I`ve heard of random misfire codes in 2G Cars resulting from running a lightened flywheel. I saw you profile, there was no mention of a lightened flywheel. When running a lightened flywheel, the obd misfire monitor in the ecu sees variation in crankshaft rotation harmonics due to the reduced mass in the rotating assembly, & interprets the variations as misfires. If you`re running a stock or non-lightened flywheel, you may have an ignition or fuel issue causing the code . . . :talon:

Coil pack on the way out? When I bought mine it would do pretty much the same thing, changing the plugs and wires didn't help. Turned out it was my coil pack... Thinking back I should've just upgraded to a COP setup :p

I am running a PTT twin disk with their lightened flywheel and get the p0300 code. It occures mostly during cruise at highway speeds around 15-20% throttle in 4th or 5th gear. If you push in the clutch and let the engine idle for a moment it will run normally again until you start to drive again under power and it throws another misfire code.

I have read a few posts of people reporting this problem after doing a clutch. I had not heard of it possibly being a result of lightened flywheels until now. I was considering testing or perhaps changing my crank position sensor because it looked pretty skanky when I did the last timing belt. I wonder if a weakening CPS could be a portion of the problem? If not is buying link and telling it to ignore misfire codes or running a heavier flywheel the only fix? Obviously some people can run 7 bolts and stock ecus with throwing the code?

I have also read results like that of Hideki for coilpack/ignitor/transistor failures. luv2rallye has some good info on testing your ignition components.

I need to get off my butt and test some of that stuff. I will post back if I solve my problem. Let us know if you come up with anything too. I think quite a few people have this problem and there is not a single catch-all solution.

Have you even pulled the code(s) to find out what the ECU is trying to tell you?

I check this first. If no codes exist I'm willing to bet your ECU is resetting while your driving. Your profile says you have Link in the trunk... does that mean your running a socketed ECU with a stock chip atm? If so the sockets can rattle enough to reset the ECU. My 1g started doing it outta the blue and continuously got worse. Check engine light would flash (no resulting code) car would sputter for a second or two, light would go away and car would run fine. The solution was to have my socket re-soldered in place. Haven't had the problem since.
