I am getting started in preparing my car for some real rally events, or will be getting started after I get home from my deplyment and all my research is done. As of now my suspention is stock and being that it is old i will be upgrading it when i replace it. Seeing that i am new to the sport i dont think that lots of money put in to my car will really make me faster just more seat time. On the other hand i would like to put something in the car that will handle the abuse and not break every time i take the car out. The only coilovers that look to fit this part are the DMS and Hotbits but both are a bit pricy and i think are overkill for me at this point. I was thinking of going with either koni or agx struts with GC coilovers, but i have just found the Ksport GR and AR rally coilovers and they are only a little more expencive than the latter setup. My car is a 1g talon AWD and primaraly i compete in Autox and rallyX (to get my driving skills up) and hope to enter a few actual rally events next year once i have a cage in the car. Thank you in advance for you time and advice.

If you are just doing some Rally cross here and there, you might get away with a Koni or AGX setup. You start doing real stage rally, you better come up with some $$$ for something more sturdy.

If you follow the jtoby rule of doing your suspension once the right way, then just save your money for the high end coilover setup you will need if you are planning for an all out rally car.

The Ksport Rally coilovers are a tarmac only application. If you plan on running any gravel, dirt, or snow stages I wouldn't recommend those.

Rob, After rallying for the last 3 years and also being a shock builder/tuner for the last 6... I would say NOT to waste money on something you plan to replace next year... KONI's are NOT a good idea... DMS are way over priced fro what they are... Hotbits
are the best option for the money and im not saying this because I am the US rebuilder/tuner... I only became the us rebuilder after I tested the parts and felt that they
where a good product... I now have ALOT of ralliest and roadracers on them... You can get into a non-adjustable remote res. setup for under 1k... That being said I know of a few people that ran KYB AGX's without many issue... Most of them only lasted a few events though...

Its hard to go wrong with them... Cheap rebuilds $50 each...quick turn around 1-2 weeksunlike the 2 months of a DMS... You can get the proper length parts (springs/sturts/shocks) for a raised rally car... Most of the other parts work, but they are just not built to rally... Wall thickness, rod and tab strength are not build to take the loads of a rally car... Rally far too much time in prep and far too much $$ and stress and TOW distances to DNF an event due to some part that was never built for teh job... Now I am not saying that HB's are the best parts ever! NO way!! They are good parts for the money and the BEST in my opinion for the budgest ralliest or RR... Yes a OHLINS, Reiger, PROFLEX wouold be a better option for a SERIOUS car! but they cost 10K! more than your whole car will!! Again I got into this deal because after building my own parts and building bastard child bilsteins and other mish-mash parts I found these where cheaper MORE reliable and easy to get! Ohh and I didnt have to sit next to my mill or lathe for hours :p

So take your time! Prep your car well! remember Murphys Law and stick to it!

See hotbits here...

Thanks guys for all the help.:thumb:

Larry- Would you be able to point me in the direction of where i could get my greedy little hand on a Hot Bits catolog? I was not aware that they offered a non-adj version, and you have me sold on buying a set of hot bits now so i want to choose the right ones. Thanks again!

I also what to know who sells the non adjustable or the adjustables, since I can't find either.

and where the hell did you find $10k coil overs?

Proflex, Ohlins, JRZ, MOTON, Reiger, SACH 4way adjustables, DMS 60's the list goes on and on... I will be doing valving work on some MOTON triples for a grand am team and the they paid 11k for them! I just finished valving some hotbits 2 way adjustable units for a SCCA T2 class race car as he went with the HB's rather than the 9k he was quoted by penske....
