Okay, Im a little stumped here. This is AWD btw.

I bought a 99GSX that was in an accident, hit in the rear pretty bad.

I installed the trans into my 95GSX.

Now, my front axles are disconnected, and the transfer case is still not connected

I started the car up to see how the clutch was (replaced clutch and bled it) and when I have the car ON I can move the shifter into any gear WITHOUT any grinding, it just goes in!! WTF EXCEPT REVERSE I have to have the clutch in to go into reverse.

1. NO AXLES HOOKED UP
2. TRANSFER CASE NOT HOOKED UP

3.Car goes into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th without ANY resistance when the car is running and the clutch is not depressed

4. Reverse, it will go in but I have to depress the clutch

IS this normal? SHould I just finish up the job, or should I take the trans out and replace it before going any farther?

I know, im dumb to AWD...im a fwd guy but just let me know if I just need to hook everything back up to get it all to work?

Do you feel clutch pressure when you depress the pedal? If you do then I wouldn't really worry about it.

I suppose it's possible to not feel any resistance between gears because there is no load on the transmission at all.
With no load, wouldn't it be possible for the clutch to just slip slightly(fully engaged) when you change gears?

Where's the tranny from? Do you suspect damage just from its condition?

When you shift between one forward gear and another, the ouput shaft and all else beyond it only have to change speed. When you shift between a forward gear and reverse, everything after the gears must change direction. It does not surprise me that your crazy experiment shows a need for clutch in only the latter case.

Did I miss the memo about this being "trash your synchros without leaving your garage" week? ;)
