hey all
i don't really understand differencials as well as i want to.. my understanding is that an open differential will always put power to the wheel with less resistance.. thus, once a tire begins to spin, the other one will not get any power.. causing peg leg burn outs and such..
i have a 96TSI FWD and just raced a 6cyl camaro.. completely wiped my ass with it.. first time i've ever really raced and i don't think i've ever felt an exhilaration like that... it's so awesome..
but anyway, i launced poorly both times.. the second time i squealed my tires a lot.. i came back later to check the launch area, and i actually left two strips of rubber which looked like the image i attached (artistic, aren't i?). i don't understand what caused the driver's side wheel to burn out where it did..
if anyone could explain this to me, i would really appreciate it..
just trying to understand the behavior of my open diff
thanks :)

well then.. i expected a quick answer from someone.. didn't realize it was such a mystery to everyone :p

Nice drawing. :thumb: With an open diff it is hit or miss. i have had sveral times were I did a burnout and I got both to light. Other times I can only get the power tire to go. It look as though you hada nice level area when both tires left marks and then it went uneven. My buddy builds rearends at a 4 wheel supply store and he says that at times they will just do it with no explanation.
