Quick question: 7 bolt crank in 6 bolt block possible?

hey guys,

just a quick question. I'm looking at a built block. The seller claims it has a 6 bolt block w/ 7 bolt crank......is it possible?

The block fits into a 1g awd so it has to be either 1g 6 bolt block or 1g 7 bolt block....can't be 2g block. Does 1g 7 bolt crank fit into 6 bolt block?

I may be wrong but the journal sizes on a 7 bolt are much smaller than those of a 6 bolt. Wthout machining new lands for the bearings to sit onto the crank would just slop around inside the old bearings.
 
It might but why? I wouldn't mess with someone who claims it's a 6bolt block with a 7bolt crank (espically with all the problems with 7bolts anyway). There's many many better places to get motors that you know are worth your time.

So i doubt it's worth it. Just find a different seller.

Well it's 1g 7 block plus crankwalk is overrated like no other.

He didn't actually built the motor. Somebody built it and he bought it new. He doesn't seem to be crazy DSM knowledageble neither.

It's too good of a deal to pass it up :thumb:
 
If it's THAT cheap pick it up, if it's never been ran maybe you can get a new crank (if its the wrong crank) if not, have at it man. And honestly, as overrated as it may be, it's not something i'd want to F with. I'll take my 6bolt motor and 4bolt rear anyday. I just wish i had the 2 piston calipers, oh well. Time to fab up a bracket for some 4 piston 3kgt calipers and rotors.

yeah i'm going to pick it up either way. I was just wondering if it is indeed possible to have 1g 7 bolt crank and 6 bolt block combo :thumb:

I'm acutally putting it into my 2g GSX i picked up for a crazy steal deal :thumb:

I looked at the picture of the engine in question and lets set a few things straight. It is not a 6 bolt block, its a 7 bolt block with a 7 bolt crank. you can tell because the main caps are totally different between 6 bolt engines and 7 bolts, 7 bolts have large gertile that is the main caps while a 6 bolt has 5 main caps, two pairs of two and a single cap in the middle. Second the classified also claims that the engine has all ARP hardware. There are bolts on the main caps not studs, so no ARP there... if it has eagle rods then those come with ARP all ready installed. I would use caution in purchasing this engine. Assuming this is the engine in question, which i believe it is...

Regardless if it's possible or not, I wouldn't get it. The 7 bolt crankshafts are what cause crankwalk.
