your equip will not burn so long as you keep the volume below the point where the sound distorts. past that the first thing to go will be your speakers, after that hte fuses for your factory amp or if you have a fuse of too high a value in the spot for the oem sound and you happen to fry the oem amp which causes the sony to see a short (very sslight possibility) the finals in the deck will burn. i forgot that sonys have both amp and ant remotes-you figured thatone out anyway.

If you continously play any speaker to the point of distortion you will damage it. I have never seen a factory amp pop fuses because the input signal is higher than "normal". Any amp is designed to put out a certain wattage into a certain impedence input signal is relatively irrelevant. If you get max volume at 25 instead of 50 you will simply distort earlier on the volume knob. It is unlikely that unless you change something else (like the impedance on that amp's speakers) that you could inccur a situation where the amp would use more current than the fuse is designed for.

you'll be fine. The way you have it connected now is how it should be. If you do have a problem with getting distortion much sooner that when you previously did, then check like spaceball says for the amp ground lead. Never used it while I was at BB nor needed too, but as regards the premium harness he probably has used one more recently than I. I have used pioneers and Clarions on them w/o having to use it and they are 18w rms and 45-50 watts peak.
Your friend might want to get some bass blockers so he can more effectively use the bass controls for the factory head to turn up the bass w/o almost immediately getting distortion from the factory speakers IMO

Red/Spaceball: any t/s on anything remotely as opposed to in person is a guess, difference is are you saying IT IS something,replace this (outright guess)

or

it might be something like this, check here/try this (educated guess / t/s)

I agree that outright guesses are damaging and can be misleading both for the present person as well as someone later. I do not condone outright guessing.

With 7 years experience in t/s satellite equipment and a/v equipment remotely I assure you I won't outright guess. But if I can make an educated guess as to what the problem may be so that the person can check that component or system and thus help them T/S that is acceptable T/s procedure. It may also help the next personwith a similar problem to post various items at once that could cause the problem as what fixes one persons issue may not be the same forthe next.
