question about running rich...

hey, i was just wondering..if a car is running to rich and you let the problem go for to long, what damages can occur to your engine over time from ignoring the problem.....is it just a performence loss? or will it cause a bigger underlying problem?

I cant help ya beyond the obvious problems to your cat. running too rich sends fuel in there to burn and it ruins it throwing a cel (for 2gs) and if your state has strict emissions standards you are gonna be buying a new cat every smog year. Sorry but thats all i got

Fouls spark plugs, can foul the O2 and ruin the cat, horrible gas milage obviously , huge deposits of carbon build up on the piston tops and through out the entire exhaust including the turbo. Clogs up the EGR. This is all assuming you're very rich though. Slightly rich at WOT won't cause any problems.

yeah i have no idea..smoke doesnt come out of the exhaust at idle or while accelerating but if i open it up to WOT then there is usually a puff of smoke out of the exhaust between shifts...maybe im just burning oil?

Possible, what color is the smoke?

if the smoke is blue your probably burining oil

it seems to be a whitish smoke...but not with a blue tint...thats what every one of my friends who drive behind me are saying...but i cant actually see it myself...if it turns out to be burning oil..possible that the valve seals are broken?...i dont thing it could be the head gasket becasue i just got new vlaves pistons and headgasket done after the timing belt broke.....yes yes it sucked shelling out 1600 dollars after the timing belt trouble..

no...i wouldnt ever do that unless i had the proper mods to do it...ive heard so many horror stories about it, it scares me just to think about doing that

itz gunna hurt your wallet$$$$.........
especially if you drive 5 hours a day like i do

its gunna foul your spark plugs, leave deposits on the piston tops and on the valves, leave your exhaust manifold with some deposits, slowly clog up your cat, your egr valve will get clogged eventually, staying either open all the time, or closed all the time.

itz gunna hurt your compression eventually with all of those deposits that slowly take up space in your combustion chambers.

And the problem only gets worse if you're getting some blow-by around the rings (not saying you are). because then you're throwing gas into the oil...and gas has a nasty habit of destroying rubber seals.

yeah im planning on taking it to turbotrix to get it all cheacked out...if i need to replace stuff i need to replace it...its gunna take me a while but id rather put money into my car then anything else....
