I'm reinstalling the rear end of my '92 Talon AWD and just want to make sure that I'm putting the 2 rear diff support/mustache bar round metal insulators on correctly.
Should the upper one be installed with the metal plate facing up and butting against the car frame and the rubber facing the mustache bar bushing?
And should the lower one have the center dimple facing up and going against the bushing, i.e. convex up, concave down?
This is how I'm trying to do it and it just doesn't seem right, as there's an air gap between the rubber ring on the lower insulator and the bushing, plus the metal plate fits perfectly on the bushing the other way, with the dimple facing down.
I took photos of it all before removing everything, but it was so rusted that it's hard to make out.
And while I'm at it, how the hell do you torque down the pinion shaft companion flange nut? It's supposed to be around 140 ft-lb but I can't find anything to secure the flange from turning. Should I just go at it with an impact? I have the Milwaukee M12 stubby, so set it to 3 and let 'er rip?
