2G rear diff question

Can the rear cover of a 1G diff bolt onto a 2G rear diff? I may be getting a 2G rear diff that works, but the rear cover is cracked. It's alot easier to find a 1G rear diff than it is a 2G, so I was thinking I can just swap the rear cover if it's possible.
