I've got to change out my camshaft, and i've never done timing before. Should I mark timing for the mechanic when I take it to him, or would it be better to just zip tie the timing belt to the camshaft sprocket and leave it tie'd on there until I take the engine in? I've got the engine out of the car. I've got a SOHC also. Thanks...

Look at the sprokets that the belts go around. Do you see little notches in them along the outer edge?

Yep I see them. So nothing really needs marked if i'm gonna put another belt on, correct?

I went to rotate the engine, and it came to a stop, like it was hitting something. So i waited 10 minutes, and it rotated fine and continued to rotate fine. Surely that wasn't a valve hitting a piston. It couldn't have been could it? Timing is still intact and in time. I'm just curious what it could have been. I didn't try to force it, so I could have just needed more force.
