on mine, the fan on the drivers side doesent sit right on the radiator like the stocker did.. insted it sits about 1 inch away.. so there is a 1 inch gap where air can go between the fan and the radiator.. why did they make it like that?

I was wondering about that also, I got mine and the fan sits away...oh well, I took the driverside fan off so The bay was a little more open and clean looking

wish i could do that.. thats suicide in south TX though :(

Im thinking i might try to make some sort of shroud for it.. but i dont have any temp probs so i prolly wont

I know what you mean - my stock fans didn't sit flush either. However, it's okay because a 12" SPAL fan fits perfectly flush within the edges of the radiator core.

i dont wanna get different fans, from what ive read no aftermarket fans outflow the stock ones size for size

im asking people who know, not magazine mechanics. and i didnt ask nor care about your heating situation, there is probably enough air blowing through your ears to cool several cars. I asked why its spaced that way. now.. pretend you know.. cmon.. lets hear it.

I don't know why it is spaced like that, because it should not be.

The fan is going to be MUCH less effective if air can get between it and the radiator. I would definately rig up a shroud, as soon as possible.

thats what i figured.. fan will be likelyto pull hot air from inside the engine bay more so than through the radiator (path of more resistance)..

ok, well now i gotta figure out how im gonna do this.. hmmmm

It must be different for the 2gs, I just checked my Fluidyne and the fan sits flush on the radiator, well about an 1/8" gap on one side but close enough.

If you are going to make a shroud, I would suggest going to Home Depot and getting thin alum. Flashing, just cause its easy to cut and it will match the radiator and look hella good, all you have to do is cut a piece, brake a 90 degree leg about 3/4 inch lonh and drill it so you can put it on the bolts....
that sounds confusing but its really not..

just an idea...

Ok, a little update.

I went ahead and made a shroud.. I used 1/4 inch thing garlock rubber and made one for the top and bottom of the driver's side fan. it sits exactly 3/4 inch from the rad.

Temps are definatly cooler ESPECIALLY when using the AC

i attached the garlock by drilling many small holes in the fan metal and the garlock and securing it together with tie wraps..

im sure that sounds kinda ghetto but it works VERY well.

It definatly makes a difference.

Ok, ive had more time to do testing and I must say..

If you have a 2g and your fan sits away from the fluidyne like that.. FIX IT.. it really does make a WHOLE LOT of difference.. cruising normally around town ive dropped a full 10 degrees EASY from 195 to 185 and when getting on it the car NEVER passes 195, it used to reach over 200 sometimes..

so this is a "must do" kind mod imo. the change is almost as drastic as going from a stock rad to a fluidyne was..

I noticed the same thing on mine. I was going to SPAL fans anyhow, and just bend up some brackets to fit right, but it would be an issue for people trying to keep stock fans.

I talked to Fluidyne at SEMA, and made them aware of this issue on 2G radiators. I think they were going to correct it.
