Hi, I am about to swap out my stock lifters for a set of TopLine revised lifters, I have a 95 GST and came across this article: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/265060-how-replace-lash-adjusters-lifters.html

Now to my question. Is there anything that I should be aware of other than what was stated in that "How To"? I have bought a replacement valve cover gasket, should I get some liquid gasket stuff to be on the safe side? Basically looking for Tips and Tricks for this surgery.

Thanks!

I know what in. lbs means. Hm....funny that you say that you dont use tools to put on an oil filter. Lol I thought they had straps and oil filter wrenches...guess i was wrong.

:ohdamn: Actuallty... Your not supposed to use any tools to put the oil filter on. Your only supposed to hand tighten it. As oil filters through it, the filter tightens itself. The only time you need those straps and sockets is for taking them off. or if some noob used them to put it on. usually if they did do that then the only way is to stab a pry bar through the filter and turn it with that! :notgood:

1g head torque order - center studs or bolts working toward the ends, three steps ending at 80ft/lbs.

Not sure if it was mentioned but the correct breaking for lifters is to let the engine idle to operating temp right after install and then after at operating temp sit in car and hold the rpm at 3k for 3 min. Then take it for a spin reving up as high as you usually do. Up and down up down doing this for about 30 min. If you let car cool and there still ticking when you restart it cool let it idle to operating temps before driving. I did this for mine and took 3 days. But now its quiet as a sewing machine. Love these 3g.

so when your filter falls off and you lose all oil pressure, just remember that they make tools for no reason. Im not gonna hand tighten my oil filter, thats like telling someone to hand tighten the bolts that go to the oil filter housing, or hand tighten the bolts for your oil drain line....im not saying go out there and crank it to 100 ft lbs, but your hand can barely tighten something like that tight enough.

The problem with using tools to tighten the oil filter is the possibility of easily over torquing it. You can crush the gasket causing it to crack and leak.

Well then dont use a wrench with a breaker bar on it LOL. I feel like if you overtighten it with a strap, then either your don't know how to use your own strength or you need to step away from the car and never return.

So happy lifters turned into a battle over torqing your oil filter.. Good job guys:ohdamn:.
I was thinking the same thing I mean a guy starts a thread asking for help and it turns into a battle of how to install a filter and how tight a bolt should be COME ON GUYS!!!!!!!!,!!!!!:argue: and yes I know this is a old thread I just hate when people do this

Lol even though this is an old thread it's pretty funny. To everyone that reads it, don't ever use any tools to tighten your oil filter. Hand tight all you need.
