What is the purpose of the resinator? does it muffle sound or what just wondering ### thinkin of just puttin str8 pipe there instead

Resonators kind of muffle the exhaust. They adjust the frequency of the exhaust sound and usually help to produce a low deep tone. With out a resonator your car will most likely have a raspy weed whacker sound. The longer the resonator the less likely the exhaust will be raspy.
