I need to reintall my crankshaft sprocket. Can anyone tell me the best and most inexpensive way to intall it back on my crankshaft?

I usually just slide it on and torque the bolt.

I think he is refering to the smaller timing belt pulley on the 420A motor that is pressed onto the crank over the key way. I had to buy a special puller to remove this pulley off of the crank, For reinstalltion you can use a socket and gently tap the pulley back on and then use the harmonic damper and the crank bolt to pull it on the rest of the way.

Ultimately the best way is to use a press and press it back on.

try your best.

I used a threaded rod, deep well socket, and a nut. Just tapped the pulley on so it would hold itself there while I situated everything and just screwed the rod into the crank threads and tightened the nut with a long open faced wrench. the deep well socket is just to space the nut further off the pulley so you don't bang your knuckles up. worked great for me

This is probably the most correct technique.

I use a short piece (~4" long) of ~1.5"-2" (double check the size before you buy anything) threaded pip with an endcap, and a mallet to tap the sprocket on. The pipe ensures the force from the mallet is evenly distributed across the sprocket. If you strike the sprocket directly, it'll crack or chip.

A press!? How would that be possible?

Miller 6792 is the specified tool. Crank Sprocket Installer 6792

If you plan on overhauling any number of engines, a worthwhile tool to invest in. Works as a damper/UDP installer as well.

You do not want to be hammering things on.

Agreed. No hammering. Autozone rents a tool very similar to this, just more universal. I've broken a couple of them working on the Monte Carlo. Cost about $30 to rent, and of course get your money back.
