Alright, my car has been in this shop for almost 3 months now after all kinds of crap going wrong and all these delays and set backs. But I'm starting to get extremely irritated with the service that is being done.

How long should it take an experienced tech. to re-assemble a head, put it on the block *block is already completely assembled*, and put it back in the car? I dropped by yestarday around 2 and he had the head already on the block and it looked like it was pretty much all assembled. But i call today near closing *4:30* and he says the tech is still putting the engine back together. It wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't already been 3 months in.

On top of that they say the tech has monday and tuesday off of next week and they dont switch techs on jobs and wont have any sort of new eta to me till late next week, which so far all of they're eta's have meant crap. they aren't open saturday anymore either as of 2 months ago..

So am i just over reacting or do i have a right to be pissed off?

i would say you have every right to be pissed off, i had similiar troubles before with a shop keeping my car for months and i eventually got it and did the work myself, since then i have never paid to have any work done on my car. You are better off to do the same. Learn how to DIY cause with it being a DSM there is a damn good chance you will have to fix it alot more.

i had a pos backup car (94 galant) that the tranny went out on recently and found a better pos (96 galant) with a blown motor but decent tranny for cheap. my buddy did the motor swap and sensor switchover for the 96 in 6 working days doing the work on the side after his day job. a shop with a qualified mechanic should be able to do the job in 2 weeks max, and thats if they are a real busy shop. otherwise i would be pissed cussing someone. heck, i could do it quicker than that with a broken arm.

well for the whole job yea. but how long does it really take a qualified mechanic to put the head together get it on the block and put it in the car?

Well, Im a qualified mechanic and an ase certified machinst so let me answer this for you. My engine and head were in total pieces on monday afternoon. Well, I went to work 1hr early and stayed 1 hour late from tuesday to friday. Today, I installed my engine and got everything buttoned up, so I would say 12 hrs, start to finish working at a slow pace by myself. It would have been done sooner but the weather around here has been hot lately and Ive taken a lot of breaks. Plus, I dont get payed for working on my stuff on my own time. :notgood:

No more then two days, That includes food and beverages also.

When you finally get it back, Just let EVERYONE know your experience with the shop. It's just like any other business, It's all through the customers, That the people get business. If people hear about this, Do you really think they'll want to deal with them?

I too am a tech. From what Ive seen in this business the guy either A) messed up somewhere and had to start over or B) has a drug problem or possibly both. They will BS you to no end. the only thing for you to do is be a thorn in their ass to get it done.

Well, its good to know im not in the wrong per se on this because I sent them a nasty email friday. The sad thing is they are supposedly one of the most reputable shops in this area *I wont mention they're name on the forum, but if you really want to know just PM me*.

It shouldn't take more then a day to put the head back together, bolt it on the block, and get the belts and crap hooked up. If the guy knew what he was doing then in reality it shouldn't take more then two days to get the car running once they got the head back from the machine shop.

Is the tech working on your car ASE certified? Is it a big shop or a small one?

Supposedly all of they're techs are ASE certified. And yes it is a big well known shop around this area that is why im pissed, feel like im getting second rate treatment, you know?
