Just picked up a 91 TSi AWD after being out of the DSM game for about 5 years or so. Car is bone stock 5spd, all original with 212k miles. Only thing I did was today changed the oil, put a K&N filter on (removed stock canister) and changed the PCV valve.
When driving the car the car pulls good and strong up until about 4500rpms in 3rd gear then just seems like it hits a wall, like the car doesnt want to go anywhere. The engine sounds almost like its free revving like the clutch were slipping. It does the same thing in 4th gear if I try to rip on it but it loses power at about 4k rpms. I'm not having any problems with the clutch angaging/disangaging between shifts otherwise so I don't believe its the clutch. Was thinking of doing a boost leak test but something is telling me its something different. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
