I've posted before on a topic similar to this, and searched but didnt really find exactly what i was looking for. I am planning on running an evoIII 16g and i know stock motors can handle that well enough. My question is what do you think it will cost to do a 6 bolt swap to handle an evoIII? Also, list your rebuild price and what was done if you're feeling like it :thumb: Thanks

Stock motors will be able to handle an evo 16g no problem. I was quoted 400 for labor on a rebuild while the motor was out of the car (6 bolt). It was a pretty basic rebuild, nothing special really but I paid like 600 for machine work. Polish crank, fit .020 over weiscos in the block, balanced the rotating mass. I know it seems I overpaid it but it's local and they are supposed to be pretty good. Machining costs may/will vary. Around here, everything in expensive.

.20 over, polish crank cam, acid dipped, valve and springs, balanced-500
eagle rods-349
8.8 wisco pistons-479
turbo manifold-0
turbo(s)-150
turbo rebuild kit-100
valve springs-30
gasket kit- 129
arp head bolts-110
clutch-439
mls head gasket.24
fmic-180
safc-210
injectors-20
fuel rail-179
resistor box-20

think thats it for the engine.

I am in the process of getting a 1990 Eclipse with 187,000 miles running strong. I just purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago from a local auto auction. I was not going to rebuild the engine because I was not planning anything fancy but there is an oil leak that I can’t spot and the cylinder walls have some vertical grooves that I can both see and feel. The compression is not as great as I would like it to be and is not even across cylinders either. I really just want to have a car that is in like new condition and reliable. Here is the list of what I am having done at the most reputable local machine shop.

Block bore 20 over & honed $100
clean/magnaflux $85
polish crank $38
balance rotating assembly $100
Shot peen/polish resize rods $125
Square deck? $50
Head 3 angle valve $134
Head decking $50
cost to assemble short block $175
TOTAL $857

AGAIN! this includes the work to assemble the short block. BUT this does not include the work for the rest of the engine which I am more than confident I can do.

my current rebuild:
rebuilt head-180
.20 wiseco piston-4 something
eagle rodes-310
stock unground crank-? (does anybody have one for sale?)
cometic head gasket-90
clevite bearings-30
water pump-?
oil pump?
ARP head stud kit-90
bore and hone-free
balance shaft elim-45

that's all I can think of for now...but hopefully it will be done soon so my 90 excel can dominate the street/track.

I usually hate these threads, but I happen to be doing the same so it hits home!

OK:

.020 over, line-hone mains, shot-peen 1g rods- $300

-EVOIII 16G turbo- $550

-Bearings, std size- $100

-ARP Rods/Mains- $100

-Mitsubishi Oil pump/front cover w/ new gears- $300

-ROSS 8.5:1 Pistons w/ rings- $440

-Used mint condition crank (Mine was FUBR) $100

-Timing belt kit- $180

PREACH IT BROTHER! :rocks:

Last time I added it all up, I'm driving over $6,000 worth of engine mods back and forth to work. Imagine if I didn't love my 2GNT so much and had put this into a TSi... :sneaky:
