hey guys. I've been thinking about having my stock 16g turbo on my Eclipse ported. But I dont know what kind of shop to take it to. Can a normal machine shop do it? Or do I have to take it to a performance shop? I dont have the money to port it right now, but the information would be handy to have fo when I do have it. Thanks.

Any place with carbide bits or such should be able to do it. It's not really rocket science. Just time consuming. I would make sure to do the O2 sensor housing and the exhaust manifold at the same time, if you don't already have them done.

12$ electric die grinder off ebay, and 20$ worth of carbide burrs (more than ull need). Or your local machine shop.

hehe im just opposite, id much rather do something myself as i dont trust people. Especially machine shops =\

do it yourself, it isn't hard, it only took me an afternoon to get the turbo done. Save some money :thumb:

I'll take my air die grinder. Those one-speed grinders are just scary man!

I vote to do it yourself too. To me, it's satisfying working on my own car and there's no one else to blame too. Its not hard I knew nothing before I started. I just found some pictures of what seemed to be good porting jobs and went at it. The most important part is that if you plan on a big exhaust you need to make sure exhaust can get into the wastegate so you don't creep, along with porting the o2 housing of course. So in the end go for it and learn something while you do it.

Yeah, I use an air die grinder as well. I was a little worried about doing it myself at first too, but once you get started you find that it's not very hard whatsoever. Just take your time and make it clean. Port it out to match the gasket. I ported my O2 housing several times because of boost creep. Word to the wise. Port the hell out of everything. The channels that run through the O2 housing have some pretty steep bends. I had a thinner cylinder carbide bit that I used to get in there and go to town leveling it out. I just wish I would have done that the first time instead of pulling the turbo off the car 3 times, just to still have boost creep. *sigh* Oh well, you live and learn. :)

I have done everything else to the car myself. Put the body kit on, did the motor swap, everything. But for some reason porting the turbo scares me. Does anyone have pic of their ported turbos? It would help a lot!!!!!! Maybe if I see how its done I'll feel better about it and I'll take the time to do it one weekend.
