i finally got around to putting in my boost and EGt gauges and whenever i turn on the car the EGT gauge just goes to 1300 and stays?

they are cobalt gauges, so i hooked them both up to a source that needs constant power during cranking (boost gauge has to have this). so i hooked the EGT to this as well as it was easier. so when ever i turn on the ignition they both go to 0 then the boost will go back to 0 but the EGT just goes to 1300. i don't understand why it isnt reading anything after i crank it up either. i let it warm up hoping it would get a reading but it still didnt?

help

is there anywhere in the US that anyone knows where i can get my autometer EGT gauge fixed. i bought them used and i though they worked but i guess the EGT is broken. autometer won't take it back without a reciept.

Did you check with autometer about paying to fix the gauge, or were you trying to get them to fix it for free? They have prices listed on their website for gauge repairs.

the guy was like pushing me i didnt have time to ask him. i'll call back

My bad, there is no link on their site. It is on the paperwork that came with the gauge here is a copy of it for you. I tried to show a picture of it, but it was too big so I typed it out for you.

"For service send your product to Auto Meter in a well packed shipping carton. Please include a note explaining what the problem is along with your phone number. Please specify when you need the product back. If you need it back immediately mark the outside of the box “Rush Repair,” and Auto Meter will service the product within two days after receiving it. (10.00 charge will be added to the cost of the “Rush Repair.”) If you are sending product back for Warranty adjustment, you must include a copy (or original) of your sales receipt from the place of purchase.

For Service Send To: AUTO METER PRODUCTS, INC. 413 W. Elm St., Sycamore, IL 60178 USA (815) 895-8141 Email us at [email protected]"

how did you manage to do that?

i'd like to have them fix it for free if at all possible. but i'm willing to pay for it

What temperatrue does your gauge go to? I'm assuming it at least goes to 1600F. Look at the probe make sure the thrmocouple endings are still good. I use thermocouples everyday at work and they fail all the time. A typical thremocouple failure causes a completely open circuit resulting in the meter going to its maximum temperature. If your gauge is only good to 1300F then its probably the themocouple/pyrometer. If its stuck somewhere in the middle its probably a gauge issue.

yeah, the actual gauge when ever i turn the ignition on it is supposed to go from whatever it was at when the car was off to 0 then to 1600 because thats they way the gauge was designed. but when it start to go to the 1600 it only manages to get to 1300 and stops. it doesnt move either whenever im driving the car

sounds like something mechanical. You could always try a different k type thermocouple for shits and giggles.

they told me to depin just the wires on the EGT and see what it did

it went from 1300 to 0 then only up to 500. so maybe it might have been the probe
