Was the head cut or block decked? What pistons, stroker. HDs, I know my stroker .20 weiscos with a head that was skimed at least twice is fine. What I do with high compression v8 motors with big cam is put a head on with no gasket, put a thin layer of playdo on the piston top, rotate it and measure the points where the valve hits and see if theres enough clearance. If theres enough without a gasket then you know its fine with one. But to do this with a dsm you have to make your own custom solid lifter, thats what I did with my motor

Most after market forged pistons are designed to take OS valves, the valve relifes are cut for them.
