hey every one i was just wondering if any one has an aem short intake installed in there car and if they like it ... iknow that a cai would be better but i live in minnesota and the weather is the shits .... :talon:

hey i use the AEM cold air intake and it works great...i understand living where you do you would want to have a nice ram air...maybe buy both and use one for summer and one for the rest...mine got me probally 4hp and great throttle response

In order for your engine to hydro-lock with a CAI, you would need to fully submerge the air filter in water, the vacuum is not strong enough to suck up water splashes, especially when the filter is there.

Installing the SRI is very easy though. It takes like 10 minutes literally. Remove your factory air box, there are bolts on the side and the clamp holding it to the intake manifold. Install the SRI with the hose and the clamp and bolt the support bracket down and you are done. Don't forget to do the breather too its that little nipple junk on your intake pipe and it runs to the motor.

Go with the short ram bceause its better at the lower rpms and thats where our cars tend to suffer.

I dunno about that one, a colder air charge seems way more benifcial to me.
The difference between my short ram, and my CAI when the filter was outside the engine bay (under the wheel well), was like night and day. It was instant response as well.

If you want better low end, free up that exhaust path a lil bit with some headers.
A smoother TB or a tightend TB cable will increase throttle response at low end as well.

Not true :notgood: Longer pipes shift the max. filling efficiency to a lower rpm and shorter pipes or no pipe shifts the maximum filling efficiency to the upper rpm's. Longer tube creates faster air flow compared to a short tube (i.e. more pressure differential from the opening to the TB end) and peak volumetric efficiency will occur at an earlier (i.e. lower) rpm. This is why a longer CAI has an advantage in the midrange over a short ram,
Heres a nice graph for you guys

I love it when someone explains stuff with math and its correct and makes sense.
Mad Props! :thumb:

Why is everyone so obsessed with AEM and Injen? Generic eBay ones are the same thing. Its a piece of mandrel bent alluminum pipe... not much difference in pipe.

I'm sure if you look in your phone book you can find a place that will make one for you if you're not able to do it yourself. The only reason people prefer AEM or Injen so much is due to the 50 state sticker. I don't think I really need it in my state, but it's nice to know that in the back of your mind. Kind of an insurance policy almost.

Yeah, I don't like to give police any reason to give me tickect for anything on my car. I got my windows tinted to 15% and legal is 35% in my state, and I just got pulled over about a month ago, cop wrote me a ticket for speeding, came back and said I'm writing you a ticket for a speeding infraction, do you understand what you are being cited for? A: yes officer, sign ticket. I get home and take a second look at the ticket and in lil tiny letters at the bottom, he wrote Illegal window tint on the ticket wich made my $73 ticket turn into $122. I should have just had my windows rolled down when he got there, but I forgot.

Anyways the point is, cops can get real nitpicky, and when they pop your hood, they wanna see 50 state legal stuff.

Also, I had a bad experience with an ebay CAI I bought, when it came, it already had some cracks and scracthes on it, then after about 3months of use, the battery tie down wore a whole next to the inktake piping, when I bought the AEM intake, the quality of how its made is like night and day.

FYI, I've got a AEM CAI which I'm trying to get rid off, PM me with a offer, keep in mind its only been used for a month then I went turbo.

Chris, has one in his car. Looked nice in a couple of pic's he posted.

I have a cai but it's definently not AEM - more of a custom intake.

EDIT: Chris used to have one .... then he got hit with the boost bug....

Yeah, I got recently stung .... Let's see if I get it done before i take off for Orlando :D

Pfff we started our projects at the same time, and look at the progress slacker... you just try to get everyone else(ME!) to do your work for you LOL ROFL :p

just messing with you.

But about the aem cai... its nice. i honestly didnt notice a power difference. after i took it out for the turbo, i noticed the bottom had 2 deep big grooves dug into it from some sort of vibration. i cant believe it didnt break through. all and all it doesnt really matter which intake you get, i didnt even notice a difference

I wonder if i could get my car to pass a 50 state legal test ROFL

Would a by-pass valve help? I've been considering getting one after I submerged the bottom 6-8 inchs of my car during a downpour a while back. The engine choked a few times I believe from the lack of air.

I agree about the pipe but I think the quality of the filter is where you want to put your money.

yep I kinda did the same thing, and the filter that came with it looked like some sort of coffee filter, so I went w/ AEM

By the way, it seems like a lot of you get hassled by the cops alot -- and I've been pulled over numerous times but I've never been asked to pop my hood.

Consider yourself lucky that that it just choked a few times, get enough water in there and you'll hydrolock it... water can't be compressed so the connecting rods usually tend to "kink" when hydrolocked let alone any other damage caused. In rainy weather I just take extra percautions to keep an eye out for big puddles, before going into one I take my foot off of the throttle until I'm clear of the puddle. A Bypass valve would be fine if you don't want to worry about anything, there's a slight power loss due to the valve but nothing significant

My friend made this intake for his Subaru, it does well for only 20 bucks spent using parts that can be found at Home Depot.

Good christ, what ghetto shit. The motor's gonna love eating that aluminum in about three months.

Yea... that could be the worst thing I've EVER seen... EVER!

I think he should have routed the hose up the A Pillar and put the filter on the roof.

Also why don't you replace that cone filter with a furnace filter

haha I never said it was good. :tease:

But yea it doesn't look like its going to melt. He's had it for like a week now and no problems, the engine breathes a lot better according to him. The OEM is a 4 piece air box... :|
