I've been looking into overmolding for custom interior parts lately, especially aluminum shift knobs and handbrake grips.

Since I work with CNC machining, I find the idea of combining a machined aluminum core with a soft TPU or TPE outer layer pretty interesting. You get the solid feel of metal with a more comfortable grip.

I also did some reading on the process and found that adding grooves or undercuts to the metal core can help mechanically lock the soft material in place, rather than relying entirely on adhesion.

Makes me wonder how well these parts would hold up after years of use, especially with summer heat and constant handling. Seems like a small design detail that could make a big difference.
