Morning fellow DSM'rs...

I am having a NASTY over boost problem and cannot seem to pin point why. My mods list is in my profile, short version:

I have a td 06 20g with supporting mods, whenever I go WOT I shoot to 35+psi, on 1 particular run I even maxed out my boost gauge...I don't know what the hell is going on, I have my EBC set to 15psi because I was trying to tune the damn thing on low boost but we couldn't even get a reading due to over boosting/wheel spinning/wheel hopping like crazy...This is my first time running an external gate as before I had an internal gated t-28killer...I've checked, rechecked, triple checked my connections for vacuum and connection to the wastegate from the boost controller.

I have the top port of my 38mm tial open, I have the mid port on the WG tee'd going to the nipple on my 20g which goes to port 2 on my boost controller, I have port 1 teeing to the bov line going to the intake manifold. My EVC IV has 3 ports, 1 is supposed to go to the source before the throttle, 1 is to go to a source of boost which is the turbo, 1 is to go to the wastegate...

I had all 3 hooked up like stated on my instructions and I overboost, someone with a greddy EBC said to maybe try leaving the 3 port open and just running a tee from the wastegate to the turbo back to the EBC and I'm still over boosting...

any ideas?

See if you can just run the vacuum hose from the turbo to the wastegate and see if it changes(ie no ebc this time). If there is no interference between the turbo and wastegate than you know something is faulty with the wastegate

edit: I had the same problem before. I accidentaly boosted my evo III turbo to 28 psi while wide open throttle shifting on the freeway whick resulted in some serious boost leaks. I don't know what happened to the turbo because my turbo was stolen. The reason why it over bosted was because my mbc was ...... installed backwards.

Hey man, I just started using an ext. WG and from what I was told you use both the top and side for an EBC, but I honestly don't know how to route the lines since I don't have an EBC. The only thing I could think off right off, would be to use the search button, but use the "search members" button and type in 38mm (for example) or whatever size wg you have in the"MODS: Bolt-on:" box and PM the folks that have an EBC and ext. wg and see what you come up with and let us know what you find out :thumb:

ok so after reading, re-reading, triple reading the damn instructions from tial on how to run an external wastegate with an EBC instead of an MBC, here's what I'm going to try...

Port 1 tee'd to the BOV line running to the intake mani
Port 2 direct line to the turbo nipple, tee'd to the mid port on the wastegate
Port 3 one line direct to the top port of the wastegate

Wish me luck..I'll let you know what happens

When you use an EBC you usaully have to select the type of wastegate you are using (internal or external). The boost controller usually has a switch panel to make the selection.
My particular boost controller (Blitz dual solenoid) has a switch that reads actuator or wastegate, actuator for a internal WG setup and wastegate for an external WG setup. The trick here is that if you select the external setup on the EBC YOU HAVE to use both ports on the external wastegate (meaning both the top and middle ports connected). If you only use the middle port and leave the top one unhooked you have to set the EBC to internal wastegate for it to work properly.
That's my experience with the Blitz EBC I don't know but I assume it is also usefull for other brands.

Yo need to change the ebc to a wastegate not AC...And yes its Laurence mofo

I already switched the button on the back deucey, I seriously hate the HKS EVC IV...when it works, its effin awesome, but right now I can't stand this thing...I'm about ready to rip it out and install a $15 home made BC from home depot....

Since my last post, my EVC still allows for over boost and I'm at a complete loss....I don't want to give up because that wont solve the problem, shall I take pictures of what I have and whats routed where to maybe give you guys a better view of what I have and how its hooked up?

How does the BOV line qualified as a source before the throttle?

good point, suggestion on where to run port 1 then?

I figured it out!!!!

Ok, so my setup that I last posted right before prodigy posted, was actually correct! The problem I had was the ports backwards...since they aren't labeled on the EVC per the instructions I had port 1 and 3 reversed, port 2 was perfect. So instead of being ascending 1, 2, 3 the order is descending 3, 2, 1.....

Switched up 1 and 3 and BAM...holds 15psi BEAUTIFULLY....now for some more tuning...

thanks to all for input:thumb:
