Well by what some of you guys are telling me are giving me some hope! Laserspeeddemon who was your insurance company? Bc I just I asked Statefarm and they said no, but this guy is insured thru Progessive, so maybe there is a chance.

I have Geico for car insurance and USAA for renters insurance. According to the policy anything damaged inside of the walls of the place of domicile (to include the garage) is covered. The same should go for your buddy. The expection might be if the garage is detached, you would have to read the policy of the policy holder (your friend).

If your car insurance company is telling that they won't cover it, then read the policy and if it doesn't explictedly outline something like this then the have to cover it and go after the insurance company that covers the house, however that is only if you have the car covered with comprehensive insurance. But you said you took insurance off your car so........

Almost forgot to update this thread, well his insurance company said they had a limit of $1000-00 so they came and quoted it at $4200-00 to fix!!! Well they cut me the check for $1000-00 got a deal on the hatch with glass and matching color for $125-00 and went to a small town body shop and did everything for me for a $1000-00!!! so basically it only costed me the $125-00 for the hatch and had to wait about a month for the shop to get done with the car.

Almost forgot to update this thread, well his insurance company said they had a limit of $1000-00 so they came and quoted it at $4200-00 to fix!!! Well they cut me the check for $1000-00 got a deal on the hatch with glass and matching color for $125-00 and went to a small town body shop and did everything for me for a $1000-00!!! so basically it only costed me the $125-00 for the hatch and had to wait about a month for the shop to get done with the car.

Thats because they are lying and didn't want to pay out. Who the hell insures their property for ONLY $1000. You'd probably pay that in 2-3 years worth of premiums. Dude they straight up shat in your face.

Look at it this way. Your friends roof collaspes on top of YOU. Do you SERIOUSLY think $1000 will begin pay the amount medical bills you incurred. I hope you didn't sign anything.

Well they said since the vehicle was under his care since it was parked there the whole winter and not just for a day or so. And bc of that,and he showed me the exclusion in the policy that anything under his care is excempt or something like that, but he found a loop hole somewhere and thats where the $1000 came from, but no i did not sign anything I was just glad to get some money from it.

He didn't get hurt, you're comparing apples to oranges. I'd say he made out pretty good being able to get the car fixed and only having to come out of pocket $125 after knowingly parking the car in a rickety building in the first place. His first clue NOT to park the car there should have been jacks being used to hold up an i-beam to support the ceiling. He's lucky that just the beam fell and not the whole ceiling. Live and Learn.
