is there anything comparable to dsmlink with roughly the same price tag, or is this the go to choice still besides making the big jump to aem,haltech...etc...

just kind of looking at other options before i go and buy it if theres something out there that has come on the market that is better.

hmm ill have to look into that

i should ahve been a bit more spicific.. my colt has dsm link and i am more than happy with it.. i jsut havent used nitrous with it and i am kind of worried about using with my auto.... which is why i was asking if there was anything known thats better....or should i just sack up and buy aem?

There are plenty of alternatives but are they really any better than Ecmlink? Probably not. (Personal opinion- of course)
Plus you get a great support community with Link :thumb:, which to some is definitely worth the asking price. (Yes I endorse it because I have Link and it's awesome)

Others:
Megasquirt Stand Alone: Great if you're into doing your own wiring/set-up
Ostrich, Jackal, TunerPro RT...
Evoscan (as mentioned above only applies to a couple years ecu 98-99)

Never mind then, I see your edit that you're already familiar with ECMLink. As long as you have the full Linkv3, adding nitrous should be relatively straight forward. It's all load based, but someone will chime in and explain that far better than I can.

oh god the nightmarish things ive gone through with megasquirt.. amazing when u finally get it setup... lots of little compatability issues but i do love it.

I mean if ECMlink is, for lack of a better way to describe it "safe" with nitrous. Than by all means I will try and use it. As you have stated the community of ECMlink users itself is worth its weight in gold. I personally know, no one that lives close by or has used it with spray. Ill have to try and dig around a bit deeper locally and see if i can find someone.

Evo 8 ECU.
Pros:
  • Much less expensive than aftermarket standalones and about 1/2 the price of V3 full as long as you find a reasonable deal on the ECU.
  • With DMA logging patch, datalogging sample speed is comparable to ECMLink logging and live tuning is possible with additional patches.
  • Reflashable with a cheap tactrix 1.3U cable, as opposed to the expensive 2.0 cable needed for DSM ECUs.
  • Tons of support and continued development, unlike the unfinished development of the flashable DSM ECUs.

Cons:
  • Not easily reversed unless you purchase an overpriced patch harness.
  • Very steep learning curve, no common sense GUI like Link.
  • Must manually install patches into code.
  • Limited available inputs/outputs for extra sensors, relays or solenoids.
  • Not supporting a company that continues to support DSMers with an excellent product.

The mor I lOok at It the more I am leaning More so towards aem.

Thanks for the info guys.

Was aem v1 the ecu I render a while back hearing about just "loosing" the tune?

TBQH if you're keeping the car on the street, keeping the stock wiring harness, DSMLink is the way to go.

i guess i should have explained it slightly better, i havent played with the nitrous setup on link yet. i am currently researching it to the teeth and see what i can find for specifics...

ive played around with and heavily used other systems for nitrous....just havent played around with link. and having the ability to handle multiple stages etc... just make them seem more capable. but like i said i would much rather stya with link since it is somehting i am used to... just not with the use of nitrous.
